OJ Mayo has to adjust to improved Grizzlies with suspension over

Via NBCSports Pro Basketball Talk:

“The team is not static. It’s fluid. It’s changing constantly,” Hollins said. “He’ll be trying to find out where the team is and trying to catch up to that rhythm. It’s going to be difficult. The team has moved in a positive direction…”

The bench also developed a different identity in Mayo’s absence. The reserves have gone from deferring to Mayo for scoring to following veteran guard Tony Allen‘s lead with gritty, defensive-minded play. The Grizzlies have also enjoyed more ball movement and an effective zone defense from their second unit.

…I am so nervous to see what happens during the next few games. The Grizzles won on a night when Rudy Gay was hurt against the Thunder and Tony Allen had 27 pt in his place and the team has been 8-2 in Mayo’s absence. Not to mention, a guy like Darrell Arthur has come into his own the past few games and has even played more minutes over Mark Gasol down the stretch. Doesn’t that mean something? I love Mayo’s play but it seems like he is now a streaky player who is great when hot and terrible when he is cold. If he can find his role on this team in the next few games, they should be fine. But if he goes back to the OJ Mayo of this year, fans will be screaming: “Memphis we have a problem”…
