MUTV Sport’s own Donnie Dwyer went down to Valley Fields to report on the Women’s Soccer Big East Quarterfinal match. After a season of success and nothing but winning, they met their rival in Notre Dame and fell by a score of 1-0. The team now awaits until the NCAA tournament rolls around when they get a seed and a location…

Fordham’s Freshman Guard Jeffrey Short out for first 5 games with knee injury

October 25, 2011

Via Facebook:

smh i have some bad news .. this FRIDAY im getting surgery on my RIGHT KNEE so i will be sitting out for 4 to 5 games. so i will not be playing in that syracuse game.. i will be out for a month.. im stress feel like crying word

This is bad news for the Rams as Short will be a huge help in the scoring department this season. He could have potentially been a starter or key reserve behind Alberto Estwick. Now he will need to get stronger and better for games against St. John’s and company. I hope he doesn’t turn out like Lance Brown who hurt himself too before playing in a Rams uniform. I wish this kid the best of luck in his recovery and hope he gets healthy soon.  Fordham needs scorers now…

Photo of the Day: Luke Donald

Luke Donald poses with Donald Duck after winning the Children's Miracle Network Classic on Sunday. (John Raoux, Associated Press)

This is an awesome photo because it is of two Donald’s in the same picture. The funny part about me posting this on my blog is that my name is Donald and I also have a picture with Donald Duck. I also notice some similarities between the two in this picture. They are both really classy and they have big smiles. But in the end, to win that tournament after being 5 shots down is very impressive. I don’t care if your name is Donald or not, that’s winning at the highest level…

MNF Preview: Dolphins WR Brandon Marshall wants to get ejected in Second Quarter against Rex Ryan’s Jets

Miami Dolphins receiver Brandon Marshall says he has been playing with his emotions in check and plans to show more passion Monday night against the New York Jets, with a goal of getting kicked out of the game in the second quarter.

When asked if he was joking, Marshall said no.

“I’m not joking. I’m serious,” Marshall told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “They’re going to fine me. It’s probably going to be like a $50,000 fine. But that quarter and a half that I’m out there, I’m going to play like a monster.

“I might get in a fight with Bart Scott. (Antonio) Cromartie, we pretty much matured our relationship and grew a little bit. We used to fight in Denver and San Diego. If that happens, it happens, so we’ll see.”

In July, Marshall disclosed he was diagnosed earlier this year with borderline personality disorder. On Thursday, he said he hasn’t played with enough emotion in the first four games for the Dolphins, who are winless.

“Obviously, Brandon was 50 percent kidding,” Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said. “I know one thing about that guy: He’s not going to do anything to hurt this football team. I know the people in that locker room are important to him, and this guy has worked really hard.”

Marshall said he might get into a fight or a shoving match against the Jets, or bang the ball off his head.

Marshall has 22 catches this year but is tied for third in the NFL with five drops.

This is probably the best news that came out this weekend. Everyone around the nation needs to watch this game tonight to see if Brandon Marshall is true to his word and picks a fight with the Jets. He is probably one of the most open spoken receivers in the league and says what he wants and when he wants. To be honest, he hasn’t been that good of a player since going to Miami so why is he acting like this when the team is 0-5? My guess is he wants the Dolphins in the news and he wants to be on a new team in the near future. Hey, look at what LeGarrette Blount did in Oregon against Boise St. in the opening game two seasons ago. He’s now a superstar in Tampa Bay. Maybe Marshall wants to follow in his footsteps…

A look into Fordham Basketball’s 2011-2012 jersey

October 13, 2011

These jerseys are different from last year and I don’t know how to react to these. They are very plain and simple. The stripes on the side of the shorts are pretty cool but I don’t like how small and bland the front of the jersey is with Fordham and the number. As you can see from Chris Gaston’s back, the number is a little bigger on the back which is nice but you can’t see the name. Also, notice the new sneakers. They are totally old-school which I love but I don’t know how effective those will be than the ones they had last year or other styles. Does that make a difference? I don’t know but they are pretty kicking. Other than that, this picture is sweet and I really think that it doesn’t matter what their jerseys look like. As long as they win and make it to the Atlantic 10 tournament, they could wear the ugliest jerseys ever like Maryland football…

Time to rally in St. Louis! The Rally Squirrel comes to life

October 12, 2011

Via ESPN:

Tony La Russa and the St. Louis Cardinals are going nuts for the Rally Squirrel.

The team plans to distribute 40,000 rally towels with a squirrel motif for Game 3 of the NL Championship Series Wednesday night against Milwaukee. In addition, stuffed Rally Squirrels are available for $5 at the Busch Stadium team store, along with “Got Squirrel” T-shirts and additional rally towels.

“I think it’s good. The fans are having fun,” said La Russa, the Cardinals’ buttoned-up manager. “And I really believe that. This is not old-school, and I know I am in many ways, but I think there’s so much attention and pressure on the players that sometimes they don’t show their happiness.”

La Russa is as serious as they come on game day. Yet he’s enjoying all the fuss over the Rally Squirrel.

“I’ve really gotten over getting upset over it. Sometimes I think it’s a release. So I think it’s fun,” he said.

It all started during the division series against Philadelphia when a squirrel, or squirrels, was seen scampering around the field — in both cities.

Twice, with a twinkle in his eye, La Russa has suggested that the squirrel or squirrels was dating utility man Allen Craig‘s pet tortoise, Torty, and that the squirrel was looking for Torty when it scooted past home plate just as Phillies right-hander Roy Oswalt made a pitch to Skip Schumaker.

“As far as the squirrel and the tortoise is concerned, they had this relationship, so I think it first came out there because Craig wasn’t playing, and his boyfriend told him or girlfriend or whatever it was,” La Russa said. “And this squirrel was looking for Craig, ran all over, finally found him.”

There’s also a prolific Torty Twitter feed, accompanied by a photo of a turtle wearing a Cardinals cap on a rock. Craig denies any involvement.

“I have no idea, I swear,” Craig said. “Somebody started a Torty account and that’s that.”

There were no squirrel sightings at Busch Stadium on Tuesday as the Cardinals and Brewers prepared for Game 3.

Cardinals officials said they had nabbed four of the critters in humane cages since the team went on the road — one of them on the walkway in center field beyond the pasture and another near the Brewers’ dugout.

I am not gonna lie, this is pretty awesome! I like how they are selling the shirts and towels for 5 dollars. That is very reasonable and I think fans will certainly run to get those when the gates open. But one thing that bothers me about this whole situation is it reminds me a lot of the 2002 Anaheim Angels and their Rally Monkey. Granted, yes it did win them a World Series but on the other hand, it really got annoying for other fans watching the games. While I think this is a great idea for the fans, the team, and the playoffs, I don’t think that it would be good to overhaul the viewers on television and Brewers fans about this big deal. Yes, its great entertainment. But no, you can’t take it over the edge. The reason for that is you will never know when “Beast Mode” might come in and ruin the parade…

Which is a better Walk off Grand Slam in the Postseason? Rangers Nelson Cruz or Mets Robin Ventura?

October 11, 2011

CLICK HERE TO WATCH VENTURA HOME RUN

In my opinion, it has to be Ventura because it forced a Game 6 and then went on into Game 7 where they lost on a bases loaded walk to Andruw Jones by Kenny Rodgers. Don’t get me wrong, Nelson Cruz’s home run was a bomb and it was awesome to give them a huge lead but the Mets game winning home run was more critical and the game was in the 15th inning. That’s a miracle…
