Fordham’s Chris Gaston named Atlantic 10 player of the week

(New York Post)

Junior forward Chirs Gaston was awarded his first Atlantic 10 player of the week award.

Gaston, scored a career-high 35 points, surpassing his previous career best of 32 in the Rams’ win over Texas State. The Union City, N.J. native also pulled down 15 rebounds, notching his NCAA leading ninth double-double of the year and the 45th of his career. He has netted double figures in scoring and pulled down double-digit rebounds in ten of the eleven games. Gaston was 13-of-17 from the field and 9-of-12 at the line. He also had a block, an assist and a steal.

Nice award for Chris who was named Second team All Atlantic 10 in the pre-season. I was at the game last Thursday and I have to say the kid put the team on his back. He got almost every offensive rebound and made a ton of inside shots. His physicality showed against Texas State with is 15 rebounds and 9 made free throws at the line. But one thing that I noticed is that Fordham can win games when they get physical with Chris. Other players like Dominique, Canty, Short and Frazier improve when Chris is in a rhythm fighting for position on both ends of the floor. This thursday is a huge game against Georgia Tech and Chris is going to need to play like an All Star in that contest with Senior Kervin Bristol’s stats up in the air…
