…Ishpeming Hematites are about one word, Heart. This city, this town, and this football team has so much character and respect for one another. Last year was about David and Goliath, this year the story was already written and Ishpeming was destined to win. These players play their butts off for Coach Olson and the High School they represent. Winning a state title one year is awesome, but celebrating back-to-back state titles is special. That’s what the UP and the city of Ishpeming is, “a special place.” UP Power is not a slogan or a saying, it’s a way of life…

Photo of the Week: Johnny Manziel Taunt

September 3, 2013

(ESPN.com news services)

This is one of the worst things you could do as a Heisman trophy winner and as a star quarterback in college football who just got off on a ridiculous scandal. Texas A&M beat Rice 52-31 and Johnny Manziel had the nerve to start taunting the Rice players after touchdowns. This photo here shows him signing autographs on his hand to the Rice players and then handing it out to them after a score. I am sorry but that is very uncalled for and very immature on his part. I show this photo because it should be a sign to athletes around the country that if you don’t play the game with respect, you will end up looking like #2 in College Station. You definitely don’t want that. The key is learn from your mistakes and get better. We shall see what Mr. Manziel does in week 2…

Photo of the Week: Mariano Stands Center Stage

July 18, 2013

Via New York Times:

Mariano Rivera took center stage in the All Star game and produced a 1-2-3 8th inning for the American League. What made the inning special was the long standing ovation by the crowd and both dugouts during his warm up pitches. The whole scene just gave me and probably most of America goosebumps after such a great display of respect for a remarkable person and player. We may never see “Enter Sandman” enter that stage ever again so it was good to see the best closer in baseball history go off as MVP…

RG3 will be the first NFL player and the first player across all four North American professional sports (NBA, MLB, NHL) to feature a Roman numeral on the nameplate on the back of his uniform.

Photo of the Week: Tebow and Wade get booed

April 16, 2012

Their faces are priceless in this photo. It all makes sense why they got booed because Wade is on the rival Heat (who just beat the Knicks that day) and Tebow beat the Jets this season in Denver using his famous “Tebow Time.” The thing I am wondering is are they really Yankee fans?  If they are, then good for them but like most athletes in sports, the Yankee cap is just a symbol for champion. So does Tebow think he is a champion? Because Wade has got himself a ring already…

Photo of the Week: Mets start out 4-0

April 10, 2012

These photos are awesome and the Mets make the front page over the Yankees and the Knicks in New York. They could be the feel good story of the season in the MLB. They need to continue this hot streak and be like the Rays of 2007 when they went to the World Series. Remember, you don’t need the big payroll and the big names to go all the way to the World Series and win. You need to have the best team chemistry and the best example of that is the 2011 St. Louis Cardinals and 2010 San Fransisco Giants who got in the playoffs on the last day. Hey, you just gotta believe…

Photo of the Week: St. Bonaventure is A-10 Champions

March 12, 2012

St. Bonaventure coach Mark Schmidt cuts down the nets after winning the A-10 championship Sunday afternoon. (Associated Press)

…I love what coach Mark Schmidt has done with the program. From a program that had won 23 games in three years from 2005-2008 it is good to see their recent success. They haven’t reached the NCAA tournament since 2000 and coach Schmidt is a big part of that bringing in Andrew Nicholson to become A-10 player of the year and player of the A-10 tournament. What a job they have done rebuilding and now they have a tough test in Florida State. I am proud to see their success and hope they win. This is just a great picture of rags to riches and that’s why they call it March Madness baby…
