Photo of the Week: Tebow and Wade get booed

April 16, 2012

Their faces are priceless in this photo. It all makes sense why they got booed because Wade is on the rival Heat (who just beat the Knicks that day) and Tebow beat the Jets this season in Denver using his famous “Tebow Time.” The thing I am wondering is are they really Yankee fans?  If they are, then good for them but like most athletes in sports, the Yankee cap is just a symbol for champion. So does Tebow think he is a champion? Because Wade has got himself a ring already…

Sports Science: Darius Johnson Odom is one of the elite players in the country

December 6, 2011

This video is insane because I have been watching DJO for three years and you can see his development. The most shocking part about this is he has such blazing speed and quickness and he was hurt when he first got here in 2009. He was in a boot for quiet some time and sat out the first month of the season in 2009. That’s something many people around the country didn’t know about this amazing athlete. But his game just speaks so much volume when you watch him. To have that ability to score off the dribble makes him such an elite scorer and he warrants double coverage every single time. But with an unselfish Marquette team, DJO can put himself in the same category of Marquette greats and could even be drafted in the first round this summer. Getting compared to Dwayne Wade is something to take seriously and students around campus understand that…

MILWAUKEE (AP) ― Miami Heat star and former Marquette basketball player Dwyane Wade returned to Milwaukee Monday.

He met with three teens who received four-year, full-tuition scholarships to attend Marquette University through a national partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Wade also spoke to local Boys & Girls Clubs members at the Pieper-Hillside Club Monday afternoon before recognizing the three Marquette scholarship winners.

NBA Free Agent signing: Wes Matthews to the Blazers

August 19, 2010

Wesley Matthews will wear #2 not #23 with the Trailblazers

Former Marquette guard Wesley Matthews signed a big contact this summer with the Portland Trailblazers in July but I never got a chance to comment on his signing. This signing is interesting because last year he made the Utah Jazz roster by playing really hard in the Summer League and Preseason. He eventually made the team and with injuries to key players got some playing time. He started playing so well that he eventually became the starting shooting guard.

He averaged 9 pts and 2 reb  in the regular season and 14 pts and 2 reb in the playoffs last year. Now, he will be playing for the young Trailblazers with a 5 year, 34 million dollar contract. For the full story, click here.

…This is a huge deal for the Marquette community and for Wesley Matthews the player. This deal proved to the NBA and to scouts that Marquette players are tough players who can play tremendous defense  with a lot of emotion and intensity. It also said to GM’s and owners that you can grab a player who can be an instant spark without drafting them in the NBA Draft. That is important. Then in this years draft, Senior forward, Lazar Hayward is drafted in the first round because of the production that Wes had put up last year. It was great to see because the only three Marquette players since Wes and Lazar to be in the NBA was Dwayne Wade, Steve Novak, and Travis Diener. Wade became a star and the others became bench players. But for Wes, this contract allows him to settle down and give some money to his family and get himself settled in a house and a community for the rest of his life. This deal allows him to financially to be more successful in life compared to the 485,000 league minimum he made last year. I am happy he was able to receive this deal. Finally, for next year’s season he might be playing right next to Brandon Roy and possibly become a full-time starter depending on where the team wants to go. Either or, keep an eye out for this young stud. He may become a big name sooner rather than later…

Lebron James will bring his skills to South Beach and be a Miami Heat

July 11, 2010

LeBron James decided on his show “The Decision” on ESPN that he is going to play for the Miami Heat next year and team up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

Here are some quotes:

On Leborn’s decision of joining the Heat:

“I can’t say it was always in my plans, because I never thought it was possible. But the things that the Miami Heat franchise have done, to free up cap space and be able to put themselves in a position this summer to have all three of us, it was hard to turn down. Those are two great players, two of the greatest players that we have in this game today.”

James on the main reason for going to Miami:

“Winning is a huge thing for me.”

James on reaction of fans in Cleveland:

“They can have mixed emotions, of course. Akron will “always be home for me.”

Very interesting quote by Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert:

…I can’t believe that this happened. Lebron went to the Heat? It makes no sense to me. To share the ball with three other all-stars and take less money and lower stats number for maybe a championship. I don’t think it is worth it. The kid loves the spotlight. Why else would he have the ESPN special? Come on, seriously. Now he needs to split the spotlight with two other players. I do not know how he is going to handle it….

…Take a look at the comments that Cleveland’s owner made. He is really upset and really spoke his mind on this one. Cleveland won’t be the same without Lebron and it is going to be really sad to see. While it may be sad, I don’t think the owner should have gotten that upset and call out Lebron for making the wrong decision. It hurts…alot…but sometimes you just have to move on and for Cleveland they still have some pieces for that to happen…

…Another thing is that the NBA now looks ridiculous. There will be powerhouse teams of about 3 or 4 like Boston, Miami, Orlando, and Atlanta and then the lower tier teams like Indiana, Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Washington. It’s not going to be a good year of basketball. I’m not going to watch it that much and to be honest, the heat to me are the villans much like the Celtics of a few years ago…

What gets me the most about this whole “Decision” is the way Lebron responded to questions. This is one of his responses to a question:

“Put the shoe on the other foot. If the Cavs would have got rid of me at one point, would my family burn down the organization? Of course not.”

Are you serious? Does that make any sense to you or what? This is what angered me the most. Answer the question in a good light but also make sense when you are speaking. Didn’t his mother ever tell him to think before he speaks. During his hour-long special, he didn’t…

…Finally, I would like to say that I think the Heat will be the best team in the league and win at least 60-65 games. If they don’t I would be shocked. With Wade and Lebron, the whole league should watch out…

Where is Lebron James really going to go?

July 8, 2010

Lebron James should seriously change his name to Carmen Sandiego because where in the world will he end up? Sources from all over the country have finally narrowed them down to 3 but that is not enough. People have said that he is going to Cleveland first, then New York, and now Miami. But let me tell you where he is going…

Answer: New York.

…I really don’t see him going anywhere else. I found the breaking news yesterday on several twitter accounts and several other sources (check down below). He will be playing with Amare Stoudemire who is one of his best friends in the league. He will be playing in front of a packed Madison Square Garden. Finally, he will be getting a lot of money…

…Do people actually think he can share the ball with D-Wade? Both are all stars but can they be all stars all on the same team. The NBA is all about individuals. If all three unite in Miami, they won’t average the numbers they have been the last few years and at the end of the game you don’t think that these two will be fighting for the final shot. They will be. The system D’Antoni runs which Lebron ran in New York is perfect for him and as Jay Z says, “it’s a concrete junge where dreams are made, and there is nothing you can’t do.” And for Lebron, that is just right…
